Theresa Nicks Drake

Theresa Nicks Drake passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at her home in Bruce while surrounded by her beloved family. Theresa was born on June 1, 1954 in Oxford to Clarence Franklin Lyles and Ila Ruth Thomas Lyles. She was 64.

Raised in Oxford, Mrs. Drake stayed close to home after High School, enrolling at Ole Miss. After graduating, she began a career with the State of Nevada, eventually retiring as an Unemployment Supervisor. Theresa’s strong sense of civic and community service continued after retirement where she was involved in numerous activities that benefitted and promoted both Bruce and Calhoun County. Her devotion to her community included being President of The Bruce Chamber of Commerce, Vice President of the Arts Council, and Chairwoman for Relay for Life. As a member of the Bruce Fine Arts Club, Theresa was honored as ‘Woman Of The Year.” In addition to her devotion of making her community a better place, she enjoyed designing and crafting her own jewelry, which she named “Stone Soup Jewelry.” Following and supporting her Husband James and his Music career was also a joy for Theresa. Staying active with numerous activities she loved, along with spending time with the many people who loved her, she will be missed by many.

Theresa leaves behind her husband, James Drake of Bruce; Son, Thomas Shon Lyles of Bruce; Brothers, James (Patty) Lyles of Brandon and Frank (Lena) Lyles of Elsa, TX; Sister, Kay Montgomery of Oxford; Granddaughter, Ketra Lyles of Raleigh, NC; 4 Nieces; and 4 Nephews.

There will be a visitation with the family on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce starting at 12:30 pm. A Memorial Service honoring Theresa’s life will immediately follow visitation, starting at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Brother David Westmoreland will officiate services.

Theresa was preceded in death by her Mother and Father.
