Veottis Ferguson passed away on Saturday, June 3 at North Mississippi Medical Center. Born in Pittsboro on December 8, 1933 to Tommie and Josie Ferguson, He spent most of his life in Bruce, Mississippi where he had many friends and family. The Ferguson family were farmers and many of Veottis’ best memories were of his youth on the family farm. They were also gifted musicians and Veottis enjoyed playing the guitar. In his professional life he owned a bakery in Jackson, Mississippi and was a salesman. He married June Roberts in 1970 and they lived in Jackson and Bruce until her death in 2009. After retirement his passion was his garden and he spent many summers growing delicious produce he gladly shared. Survivors include one son Donald Ferguson (Devy) of Smithville; two daughters, Donna Ferguson Jones (David) (of Smithville and Denise Ferguson Booth (Ricky) of Wren; three sisters, Shirley Ferguson Self of Clinton, June Ferguson Vaughn of Bruce, and JenniferFerguson Price of Huntsville; four grandchildren, Kayla Fears Morgan, Megan Booth ad Josie Booth of Wren and Chloe Ferguson of Smithville; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 on Monday June 5 at ParkerMemorial Funeral Home Chapel and services will be held 2:OOp.m. on Tuesday June 6th. with Bro. Darrell Logan officiating. Burial will be at Rocky Mount Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rick Booth, David Jones, Darrell Bryant, Jeff Bennett, Joe Bennett, Clovis McCormick, M. D. Tutor and Willie Wells. Honorary pallbearers will be Matelon Ferguson, Charles Bennett and Smokey Barefield.
