Vardaman – Virginia Ann Fleming, 81, passed peacefully from this life, Tuesday, February 14, 2023, after spending her final days at the home of her daughter, surrounded by family as they spoke with her and comforted each other with their stories and memories of life with Mamaw.

Virginia was born March 21, 1941, to Cooper Ray and Winnie Dee Goodson, in Big Creek, MS. She was a loving wife to her husband of 64 years, Jerrell Fleming. She was a devoted homemaker, instilling her girls with Christian values, and teaching their friends and neighborhood children about her savior. She leaves a legacy of leading countless souls to the Lord.

Virginia had a beautiful voice and faithfully used her talent to praise the Lord. She regularly sang in church services and revivals, ringing out those Southern gospel hymns in her rich soprano tones. A visit to her home often included an impromptu family-singing around the piano. She loved animals, and never turned away a stray, acquiring quite a menagerie of dogs and birds through the years. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren leaving them all precious memories of their loving, witty Mamaw. Through those grands and great-grands her sense of humor and her gentle loving spirit lives on.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Jerrell Fleming; her daughters Sheila Turpin and Bill of Collierville, TN, and Rita Ricks of Franklin, TN; her sisters: Mary Bell Hobgood of Grenada, Jessie Faye Russell of Bolivar, TN, and Winnie Lucille Bevill of Derma; her brother Jerry Dale Goodson of Calhoun City; her grandchildren: Emily Evans, Luke Turpin & Adison, Nick Turpin & Allyssa, Christy Bell & Zach, and Brad Ricks; her great-grandchildren: Jack, Emma, Ava, and Levi Evans; James Turpin; Chase and Waylon Turpin; Alyssa and Audrey Bell; and Lilly Ricks; a special nephew, Brandon Blair; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Cooper Ray and Winnie Dee Goodson, her sisters Martha Rea James and Linda Nell Goodson; her brothers: Howard Ray Goodson, Earl Wayne Goodson, Edwin Allen Goodson, and James Cooper Goodson.
