William Boyd Smithson, 81, of Bruce, passed from this life and into the next on Saturday, November 04, 2023 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS. "Smitty" or 'Mr. Bill' as he was called was born to James Bradford Smithson and Ellie Mae Smithson on October 30, 1942, in Bruce, MS.
He was a loving brother, husband, father and was a faithful, dedicated Christian who was a long-time deacon at Concord Baptist Church. He loved to teach Sunday School and be a lay minister every chance he got. He also was a retired UPS driver and enjoyed NASCAR and tinkering on vehicles when he wanted to but not all the time. Smitty had a saying that the Lord was always seemingly getting himself something up to whoop him with' in order to keep him honest.
William was preceded in death by his parents, James Bradford Smithson and Ellie Mae Smithson; wife Linda Carol (Dunn) Smithson; brother James Smithson, sister Ruth Byars, twin infants Janice and Jeffinie and son William Keith.
He is survived by daughter Jeanine (Chris) Ritchie of Bruce; son Stephen Smithson of Olive Branch; grandchildren Casey Smithson (Angelin), Keri Haire (Benji) all of Bruce, MS, Ethan Ritchie of Olive Branch, MS, Jade Brown (Corey) of Georgia, Evan, Vance, Trevor Smithson and Jenna Block (Chevy) all of Olive Branch and eight great-grandchildren.
His friends and family appreciate everyones' love and prayers.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 07, 2023, from 5:00P.M. until 8:00P.M. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service honoring William's life will be held on Wednesday, November 08, 2023, at 2:00pm. in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Smith and Bro. Bill Williamson officiating. Cory Brown, Benji Haire, Charlie Hill, Casey Smithson, Evan Smithson, Trevor Smithson, and Vance Smithson will carry William to rest in Concord Cemetery.
