William James Myers, 79, passed away Saturday, June 9 th , 2018 at his home in Houlka. William was born on July 6 th , 1938 to Verlin S. Myers, Sr. and Rose Smith in Allegany, New York. This past August, William was saved by accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior, baptized in a feeding trough at First Baptist Church of Bruce.
William was retired from the Army, where he served as a Nurse and Combat Medic. William’s service to his country is nothing short of heroic. During his service, which included being a veteran of the Vietnam War, William earned the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Medical Badge, National Defense Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Bronze Star, Silver Star, and the Purple Heart.
William leaves behind his wife, Suzie Perry Myers of Houlka; Son William J. Myers, Jr. of Houlka; Daughter Mary Ann Melton of Houlka; Grandson Matthew (Sarah) Myers of Water Valley; Granddaughter Linda (Joseph) Pyron of Grenada; Great-Grandsons Keegan Myers of Water Valleyand Jaden Peters of Grenada; Great-Granddaughters Memri Myers and Summer Myers of Water Valley, and Kaylynn Pyron, Rainy Pyron, and Melody Pyron of Grenada; a host of Nieces and Nephews; and life-long friend Earl Sturtevant.
There will be a visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. with the family on Tuesday, June 12 th , 2018 at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce. A funeral service honoring William’s life will immediately follow visitation in the chapel of the funeral home, starting at 2:00 p.m. led by Dr. Gary Roberson including a eulogy offered by Matthew Myers.
Pallbearers include William Meyers, Jr., Matthew J. Myers, Albert “Butch” Pfeiffer, Joseph M. Pyron, Wesley McCullar, Jaden S. Peters, and Kenneth D. Hood. William will be laid to rest in Memory Memorial Cemetery, located in front of the Funeral Home.
William was preceded in death by his Parents; Brothers Verlin S. Myers, Jr., Al Russell, and Richard Russell; Sisters Virginia Bennett, Marion Pfeiffer, and Betty Blue; and Step-Mother Mrs. Elaine Myers.
