Listen to Obituary

Winifred Lucille Dolan, 89, of Water Valley, Mississippi passed from this life on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Calhoun City, Mississippi. Born February 15, 1931, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Winifred was a daughter to the late Roy Joseph Gonzales and the late Claudia Crump Gonzales.

Winifred, a Navy Veteran, answered the call to assist her beloved nation during the Korean War. She enlisted in 1951 at the young age 20, a time and age where women were supposed to be caring for the home not the causalities of war. Winifred was honorably discharged in 1953 with a National Defense Medal hanging from her uniform. Upon her return to civilian life, Winifred married the love of her life, Lt. Donald M. Dolan. The couple spent a timeless fifty seven years together before Donald’s passing in January of 2010. Apart from becoming a dedicated homemaker, wife, and mother; Winifred found a passion for art. This loving artist spent her days joyfully turning dull canvases into scenes bursting forth with color. She found life experiences beyond painting, not only in the form of travel, but also looking after animals. As a lady of the Catholic faith, Winifred celebrated the promises of her Lord as a parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish Winifred's memory are son Mark (Amy) Dolan of Water Valley, Mississippi, daughter Leslie (Louis) Hodges of Folsom, Louisiana,  two grandchildren: Amanda Weir and Elizabeth Pascual: two great grandchildren: Lily Weir and Samuel Weir.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Dolan; parents Roy Joseph Gonzales and Claudia Crump Gonzales, and sister Dorothy Rodriguez.

A graveside Mass honoring Winifred's life will be at 12:30 PM on Friday August 21, 2020, at Jacksonville National Cemetery located in Jacksonville, Florida, with Father Jason Trull officiating.
