Winona Franklin, 64, passed away on December 12, 2021, in Pittsboro, MS. Winona Franklin better known as Nonie was born on March 29, 1957 in Fort Hood, TX, to John Wilson and Nancy Gruse.
Nonie dedicated many years of her life as a counselor, specifically looking the mental health needs of people seeking a change in life. After retiring from the Department of Corrections and the tobacco quit line she began to enjoy her life of leisure in retirement. Nonie was an avid reader and enjoyed getting caught up in the plot of a thrilling murder mystery novel. She loved unwinding to classic rock and Indie genres of music. She also spent her time giving her fur babies attention; Gabrial, Mazzy, Star, Nidja, Miss Kitty, Elliot, and Caleb. Above all her hobbies and interest Nonie valued time spent studying the word of God where she learned more and more about His character each day.
Those left to cherish Nonie's memory are her husband James Franklin Jr., of Pittsboro, mother, Nancy (Tom) Gruse, San Angelo, TX, sisters; Rebecca (Dan) Wischmann Belgium Germany, Tracey Hernandez, of Topeka, KS, brother in law, Heath (DeeAnn) Franklin of Pittsboro.
Winona was preceded in death by her father John Wilson, brothers; John Wesley Wilson III and Eldra Carson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service honoring Nonie's life will be held on Tuesday, at 2:00 PM at Pittsboro Cemetery with Bro. Vincent Anderson officiating. Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Douglas Bullard, Heath Franklin, Reed Gregory, Bill Malone, P.K. Edmondson, Hunter Bryant, Devin Bryant and Aiden Bryant.
